Tan lines have always been dreaded, up until now.

Social media users have been sharing #sunburntart photos, which are designs drawn with sunscreen or other stencils on the skin and getting a tan on top of it to reveal tattoo-like designs. Not only does it look painful, it also isn’t very safe.

The damage isn’t apparent right away, but those damaging effects will come 20 years down the line. Even if you’re more prone to tan than burn, the sun will still damage your skin. A huge misconception people who tan easily have is that they’re invincible to the sun, but that’s not true.

You’re damaging your skin any time you come in contact with ultraviolet light and that changes the skin’s DNA. This isn’t worth it. Get a fake tan instead and use sunscreen at all times! Creative? Definitely. Cute and safe? NOPE.
