Yesterday afternoon, Alif Alexander Faizal Weber died instantly when he fell from the fourth floor of Bangsar Shopping Centre. Minutes before the tragedy happened, the 26 year-old’s mother mother and several workers at the mall had tried to stop him from jumping over the railing.

A 50-year-old product adviser, who wished to be known only as Ogy, said she saw someone fall down from the floor above. “Then, I heard people screaming as his body hit the floor,” she said.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Azlee Abdullah said the case has been classified as sudden death. “Initial investigations revealed that there were no elements of foul play in Alif’s death,” he added.

ACP Muhammad Azlee said Alif had been receiving treatment for mental distress for about a year. “He was studying at a local university, but stopped in his second year,” he said. “He was unemployed and would spend time exercising with his mother for company.”
