New Policy on Buying Nail Polish Remover to Curb Meth Production

CVS pharmacy customers now have to present their identification card if they want to buy nail polish remover and they’re also limited to two bottles per purchase.

According to the New York Post, the drugstore chain says the rule is to attempt to curb the making of illegal methamphetamine, or most commonly known as “syabu” or “ice” in Malaysia.

CVS pharmacy issued a statement:

“Because acetone is an ingredient used in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine, we recently implemented a policy that a valid ID must be presented to purchase acetone-containing products such as nail polish remover. Our policy also limits the sale of these products in conjunction with other methamphetamine precursors and is based on various regulations requiring retailers to record sales of acetone.”

Two bottles of nail polish is more than you need in a month, anyways. While this may change they way CVS pharmacy customers shop, it’s still a pretty alarming to know just what sort of chemicals is used in the production of hard drugs like meth.

What’s quite puzzling is that the new policy was also publicized on the same date as the second of Breaking Bad Season 5. Wonder what Walter White has to say about this.
