There’s nothing more important in life that giving birth to a healthy baby, which is why we need to take care of our fertility. Apart from the environment, the health of our uterus is also based on exercise and our diet. While there are a number of foods to avoid before or during pregnancy (caffeine, seafood), here are five essential foods that will guarantee your fertility.

1. Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and veggies are high in antioxidants that frees the body of harmful substances, thus promoting reproductive health. Citrus, berries and leafy greens are important to prevent birth defects.

2. Fatty Acids

Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, and omega-3 fatty acids should be your best friend. They reduce inflammation and increase insulin sensitivity. Get your dose from fatty fish like sardine and salmon, avocado, sesame and more.

3. Choline

Choline is a nutrient that has the potential to reduce gene effects that may result in birth defects. It’s important for brain function, and can be found in egg yolks, beef liver, and cauliflower.

4. Beta-Carotene

Beta-carotene can be found in carrots, broccoli, peas, spinach and sweet potatoes. This nutrient is converted into Vitamin A in the body and is thought to be important for cycle regularity too.

5.Dairy Products

A study at Harvard found that women who consumed full-fat dairy foods has lesser problems with ovulation. Calcium is also an important fertility nutrient, so if full-fat dairy isn’t your thing, look into non-dairy foods that are rich in calcium.
