After holding the throne as K-Pop’s main female group for 7 years, YG Entertainment has announced the disbandment of 2NE1 an hour ago, leaving fans over the world utterly shocked and upset.
In an official statement, YG Entertainment states that 2NE1’s exclusive contract expired in May 2016, and with Minzy leaving 2NE1, it’s understandable that they have come to an mutual decision with the remaining members to officially disband the group.
As the official girls for YG for so many years, the group members, Minzy, CL, Bom, and Dara, all felt that leaving the K-Pop group was the right thing to do. With the huge amount of new girl bands flocking to compete with each other in the industry, they have decided to focus on the members’ solo activities instead, rather than waiting for 2NE1’s next promotions.
The girls expressed their gratitude to fans from all over the world for their endless support and love throughout the years, “We would like to officially announce that after last May, we resigned with CL and Sandara Park. However, unfortunately, there is no new contract with Park Bom.”
