North and South Korea are kind of still at war, but that didn’t stop these two Olympic gymnasts from taking a joyous selfie together in Rio.
North Korea’s Hong Un-jong and South Korea’s Lee Eun-ju snapped the photo during a training session at the Olympic arena, and this has gone to become one of the most iconic and powerful moments at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

A political scientist Ian Bremmer, tweeted regarding the photo, “This is why we do the Olympics.”
Conflict on the Korean Peninsula has persisted for about 60 years and tensions have been intensified recently, especially after Pyongyang test-fired a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan.
North Korea’s Hong is the first North Korean gymnast to win a medal when she won gold in the vault event at the 2008 Olympics. This is Lee’s first time at the Olympics.
